For the Burgundy terroirists, these are happy days as an increasing number of producers are producing Mazoyères as well as Charmes, since they think people will be willing to learn how to pronounce the name. Why else is Chablis so popular? Here is the comparison between the Perrot-Minot Charmes 1999 and Mazoyères 1999. This Taupenot-Merme Mazoyères-Chambertin 2011 has a purple rim, thick legs. There is cocoa, strawberry, orange liqueur on the nose. The aromas move around given its youth. Full dark fruit, orange sanguine, mineral. Surprisingly fresh given the rich fruit-driven style. This is a spectacular wine with wonderful minerality. Will age gracefully for another 10 years at least. Scores 26-27/30 for a Gevrey Grand Cru. Would appreciate tasting notes from older vintages to understand whether the fruit concentration translates into complexity. What will be behind the door in 2023?
