Pommard 1er Cru "Les Saucilles" 2001, Jean-Marc Boillot

The Jean-Marc Boillot domaine is widely viewed as a top tier producer without commanding ridiculous prices. They have 11 hectares of Burgundy appellations in the Côte de Beaune. For those wishing to track back here are the tasting notes for a Volnay 1er Cru 2000, a Pommard 1999 and a Beaune 1er Cru 2007. Rye bread, strawberry, blackberry, sweet licorice, roast beef. Can I smell some Yorkshire pudding or am I imagining that? Coffee grounds, hazel nuts, warm chestnuts. Soft, evolved, berry fruit, integrated, suave. This is now probably 18 months past its peak. Drink up those lovely 2001s! Now lacks weight and oomph for a Pommard. Scores 20/30 for a Pommard 1er Cru, would have been 22/30 at its peak.
