Savigny-les-Beaune "Les Montchenevoy" 2007, Patrick Javillier

Another trip to the Javillier cellar in Meursault which is conveniently open on Saturday and Sunday secured a few new bottles. This Savigny blanc from the excellent (for whites) 2007 vintage is a pale silver-yellow colour exhibiting splendid stout Burgundian legs. Lemon, baked apple, cherry flesh on the nose. This is fragrant not potent and distinctly more reserved than when last tasted at the domaine in October 2009. When imbibed this rare Savigny chardonnay suggests a tasty soft pear, white nectarine and slightly unripe watermelon. Savoury, with a lively finish and a feminin disposition. Un vin digeste. Photo shows the village bar in Puligny during the world cup final as "le bar man" pulls the Burgundian equivalent of a yard of ale.
